I know today is a holiday in the U.S. of A., but it feels odd to “celebrate,” given the recent SCOTUS decisions. It’s all very sobering, really. Without politicking too much, let’s just say that I think it’s time to check in and check up on yourself.
As a writer, I have a responsibility to read a lot of what’s going on in the world.
From, the tragic police shooting of Nahel in France and Rokhaya Diallo’s take on why this is not new… to the never-ending Russian aggression against innocent Ukranians… to Israeli forces launching yet another bloody military invasion into the West Bank…I can honestly say, it’s tew much. The events themselves are atrocious enough, but consuming this kind of news at length and in high doses is enough to give any sane person a panic attack.
If life feels heavy, despite the fireworks and hotdogs, I’m holding space for you.
I try to keep things light and upbeat here, but it feels like the world isn’t giving me much to work with. So, I will drop a few titles (not my own) that might heal the little rips in our heartstrings and wipe away the uncried tears. Today, I’ll be journaling and hugging my children very tight.
I hope you take the time to check in on yourself and on your strong friends.
The year is halfway through, and not a day of it has been easy. But, we’ve got 181 days in front of us to make the most of!
Join me in expressing gratitude for getting this far, setting new intentions for the months ahead, and building some positive, creative momentum for the days ahead.
