Alright, ladies. It’s our moment. What are we going to do with it?
Do you realize that Women’s History Month is 37 years old this year?
In 1987, Congress passed a resolution designating March as "Women's History Month." Since then, every U.S. president has issued annual proclamations honoring the month and encouraging the celebration of women's accomplishments.
While I’m sure your local libraries, museums, schools, and workplaces will launch events, I encourage you to do more than be passive recipients of knowledge. Instead, give while you get.
What is often missed about the heritage months is the paradox of their very existence. Disparities and Inequities, Invisibility and Bias are precursors to months like these. They present the opportunity to set the record straight. They are a call to action to do better—this month and forever more.
So what have you done for the ladies in your life lately?
Not sure where to start?
Girl Scouts, women’s shelters, and STEM programs for girls are likely just within reach. If you’re looking for a national or international option. Here are a few organizations that you could support and make an impact:
Oh, and ladies, this month is yours for the taking. Submit that proposal. Apply for that job. Ask for that raise. Recommend another woman for the opportunity you can’t take on. Throw your name in the hat. Give another woman an unexpected compliment. Praise a woman in public, even if she’s not there to see it. Sleep-in — ‘cause I know you’re tired. Get that long-overdue physical. Take those vitamins. Shine where you used to shrink, and get used to taking the lead.
It’s where you belong!
I know you already know this, but I’ll say it again for the newbies here. I still have 3 client slots available for 2024, so please don’t hesitate to reach out about freelance content and copy or magazine assignments for 2024. While I’m a generalist, I have a deep knowledge of home décor & design, global real estate, money & personal finance, travel, family, culture & events. Let’s collab this year!
