Seeking Sources: Pediatrician Explainers
For Parents Magazine: Answer Qs about Lice, Eczema, and Asthma, Oh My!
Pediatricians and Health Experts ONLY!
I am working on two stories for Parents Magazine regarding conditions that impact Black children but are often NOT talked about enough. Lice and Asthma!
There are two sets of questions, and expert sources are welcome to respond to one or both — depending on their expertise.
Please email me brief answers (3-5 sentences per Q) along with a short bio about the source.
Can you get lice in 4C Hair?
In the US, there is a general myth that lice don't like "4c hair," tight curls. However, Black children can and do get lice.
Can you share more about how common lice is in tight curls?
What are things parents should look out for?
Any tips to prevent/treat lice in natural Black hair (afro, dreadlocks, braids, etc)?
Connection between Eczema and Asthma?
Many parents report seeing a connection between respiratory issues (like asthma) and skin problems (like eczema and dermatitis). Are they just making this up?
Can you share more about the connection between the two conditions?
What parents should do when they see both manifesting in their tots?
Are there any reasons why the two conditions might be connected or show up at the same time?
Deadline is COB EST April 22.
Please email me ASAP!
